End of an Era

I made an important decision today which will affect the rest of my adult life. On Monday morning, my beloved dog Star will live her final hours. It’s been a decision I’ve dreaded for nigh on two years, but finally I must face the truth, that she no longer enjoys life and I know longer have the right to force her to endure it.
Star was one of the original ‘rescues’ from a pooled effort of a group of likeminded people that went on to become a successful registered charity.
Star wasn’t my first whippet by far. When she leaves me, it will be the first time in 18 years that I haven’t had one by my side. She was the bestest one though. She outlived all the rest and became the closest friend I’d ever have. Only if I’m lucky enough to be able to retire with my health intact, will I be able to keep another.
So, think of me on Monday, with my dear, 17 year old dog who can hardly walk nor barely see. Pray she doesn’t wag her tail or wiggle her lumpy old bum in happiness, as I’ll falter then as I’ve already done so many times.
I need to do the right thing and I only hope she can forgive me.
Thanks for reading x
